What Is ATHX?
ATHX (pronounced “Ath-X”) is an adidas-backed competition format in functional fitness. You move through strength, endurance and metabolic zones, with planned refueling and recovery breaks.
History and Development
- The first events took place in the UK in 2023. ATHX subsequently expanded into continental Europe, including events in 2025.
Structure and Schedule
- A structured multi-event competition lasting around 2–3 hours in total.
- Strength Zone: heavy, strength-focused tasks.
- Endurance Zone: cardio-focused workouts.
- Metabolic Zone (MetCon): a high-intensity finish.
- Refuel and Recovery: scheduled breaks.
- Current divisions: LITE, ATHX and PRO. ATHX and PRO offer individual and pairs entries; LITE is for pairs.
Who It Is For
- Options for different experience levels, from beginners to experienced competitors, within a clearly structured event.
- Performance across defined sections, with an all-round fitness challenge.
How It Compares
- HYROX: varied tasks within zones instead of a fixed eight-run, eight-station course.
- CrossFit: a more scheduled structure with less emphasis on surprise.
- iF3: a commercial event rather than a federation competition format.
- GRID: a multi-event format, including pairs, rather than a team sprint league.
