What Is the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3)?
The International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) is the independent, nonprofit international governing body for functional fitness as a sport. It develops rules, movement standards and technical official education to help the sport grow worldwide.
History and Development
- Legally established in 2016 and publicly announced in 2017.
- World championships were introduced in 2017; the competition structure also includes continental championships.
- A growing network of national member federations.
Competition Format
- Individual Medley: six test categories — Endurance, Strength, Bodyweight, Skill, Mixed and Power.
- Team Medley: a related format with an added team strategy element.
- Consistent movement standards and scoring rules.
Anti-Doping and Recognition
- The federation follows an international anti-doping framework and works toward recognition of functional fitness by sports organizations.
How It Compares
- CrossFit, HYROX and ATHX: the iF3 is a governing federation, rather than a commercial event series.
- GRID: the iF3 focuses on organized sport across participation and performance levels, rather than a professional league.
